Boston, MA – Dance with Parkinson’s at Urbanity Dance Headquarters

Urbanity Dance offers free community-based dance programs for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers in the Boston area. Modeled after the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson’s Group’s Dance for PD program, Urbanity has a unique class that blends yoga and basic dance technique with the creativity of story telling and live music.

Each class explores movement and music, balance and flexibility, coordination and grace- similarly to a typical dance class. Participants are invited to let go of inhibition and to find joy in music and motion within a social, creative outlet. Whether seated or standing, individuals can enjoy this supportive community at one’s own level and pace.

All are welcome; no dance experience is necessary; come dance with us today!

Cambridge, MA – Dance with Parkinson’s with Urbanity Dance

Youville House, in partnership with Urbanity Dance, will host a dance course for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers. Participants are encouraged to join any or all of the free weekly classes. Classes are intended to enhance movement, instill confidence, and build a community for people with PD. Classes will be taught by instructor, choreographer, and performer Betsi Graves.

Concord, MA – Parkinson’s Movement: Healing Movement to Music

*This class is being offered both virtually and in-person.*

This “Parkinson’s Movement: Healing Movement to Music for Parkinson’s and Movement-Related Disorders” classes uses various dance techniques and styles to address balance, flexibility, movement range and rhythm in a safe and enjoyable environment. It is based on the acclaimed Dance for PD® program developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group. Research has found that dance techniques can be helpful to those with Parkinson’s and other mobility disorders including shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking and gait. Caregivers are welcome to accompany student for free. Taught by Susanne Liebich, trained in Dance for PD; certified in therapeutic dance and movement. Classes are taught in 6-week sessions. Dance for PD© Certified Teaching Artist Dianna Daly leads this movement class with series of seated and standing movement exercises to promote flexibility, balance and strength. Participants are given tools through rhythm, dance, and movement sequences that help improve agility and mobility issues associated with Parkinson’s. Movement improvisation, vocal and facial exercises, and a variety of music add to the fun.

Experience the joy of movement in many dance styles including Tango, Waltz, Ballet, and even Show Tunes. This dance experience is designed to enhance coordination, balance, flexibility, and strength. Certified Dance Instructor Roseann Eliseo has trained with the Dance for PD curriculum in New York City. Sara Crandall, PT, who will assist with the classes, also has experience working with people with PD.

Northampton, MA – Dance for Parkinson’s

Come dance! This class is modeled after the Dance for PD® classes developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group. This class is designed specifically for people with Parkinson’s disease and their spouses, family members, friends, and care givers. Classes will use various movement forms such as ballet, modern, folk dance, improvisation, and rhythmic styles to engage participants in an aesthetic experience and develop their artistry. They will also address various PD-specific concerns such as balance, flexibility, coordination, isolation, and depression. Classes are appropriate for anyone with PD and no dance training is required! Please contact Fritha for more information about the class.

Let Your Yoga Dance is a unique healing movement and yoga mix that has brought increased strength, flexibility, balance, and Joy to hundreds of Parkinson’s students. This program is designed for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and caregivers. No experience is necessary.
