Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are welcome!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) Iowa Chapter. There are many ways to volunteer for our organization including at special events, design and marketing, and an event committee.

Special Events

Help is always welcomed before, during or after an event. Duties can include assisting with registration, helping with parking, setting up and taking down signage, guiding guests at the event, or other tasks deemed necessary by APDA staff. We look for people who are courteous, personable, dependable, and punctual. In addition, we need people who are respectful and can maintain confidentiality of APDA volunteers, partners, and donors.

Design and Marketing
You can perform a variety of tasks. This includes graphic design, social media marketing, event marketing, website maintenance, fundraising campaigns etc… We need people who are willing to take initiative and are detailed oriented. This work can be done from home or at our office at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Downtown Des Moines

Event Planning Committees

We welcome you to join a committee for any of our fundraising or educational events. You will help raise funds and provide programs and services for people with Parkinson’s disease. You can help with event planning, marketing, press releases, identifying sponsors, etc.  The events we need help with each year include:

  • Iowa Parkinson’s Disease Conference (June)
  • Northwest Iowa Parkinson’s Symposium (February/March)
  • Pint’s for Parkinson’s (April)
  • Optimism Walk (Sept/October)
  • C4 Workout Fundraiser (December)

If you are interested in volunteering you must fill out a Volunteer Application. When it is completed please return it to us via email or in the mail. Once we receive your application, you will receive a phone call to schedule your volunteer orientation.
