Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are welcome!

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) South Florida Chapter.  There are many ways to volunteer for our organization including at special events, in the office, at support groups or on an event committee.

Special Events
You can help before, during or after an event. Duties can include assisting with registration, helping with parking, setting up and taking down signage, guiding guests at the event, moving tables, hanging decorations, or other tasks deemed necessary by the APDA staff. You must have a professional appearance (outfits will depend on the event) and be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. We look for people who are dependable and punctual. In addition, we want someone who is respectful and can maintain confidentiality of APDA volunteers, partners, and donors.

Office Help
You can perform a variety of tasks. This can include answering phones, data entry, filing, internet research, mailings, and other tasks as deemed necessary by the APDA staff. Computer skills are not necessary but helpful. You must have a professional appearance and be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. We prefer someone who is willing to take initiative and is detail-oriented. We look for people who are dependable and punctual. In addition, we want someone who is respectful and can maintain confidentiality of APDA volunteers, partners, and donors.

Support Groups
You can be a facilitator for a caregiver support group or a person with Parkinson’s (PWP) support group. Prior experience or a background in healthcare is necessary. Training will also be provided. Most groups are offered monthly and 1 to 1 ½ hours in length. You must have a professional appearance and be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. We prefer someone who is willing to take initiative and is detail-oriented. We look for people who are dependable and punctual. In addition, we want someone who is respectful and can maintain confidentiality of APDA volunteers, partners, and donors.

Event Committees
You can join a committee for any of our fundraising events including our walk. You will help raise funds and bring people to attend the event. You can help with marketing or finding items for the silent auction. You can assist with getting corporate sponsors. You role will be key in helping to make the event a huge success! You must have a professional appearance and be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. We prefer someone who is willing to take initiative and is detail-oriented. We look for people who are dependable and punctual. In addition, we want someone who is respectful and can maintain confidentiality of APDA volunteers, partners, and donors.


If you are interested in volunteering you must fill out a Volunteer Application.  When it is completed please return it to us via email or in the mail. Once we receive your application, you will receive a phone call from the Program Director scheduling your volunteer orientation.
