BREAKOUT SESSIONS

There will be TWO sessions offered.
Choose what you want to attend when you register.

CARE PARTNER CONVERSATION CIRCLE An opportunity to connect and share with other Parkinson’s Care Partners through a relaxed, support-group style conversation. Hear from others and share what being a care partner means to you. We’ll chat about the different ways care partners support their loved ones and how that impacts their relationships.

PD Moveit! This class is a PWR!Moves class with exercises specifically targeting impairments relating to Parkinson’s disease. This positive-filled energy class focuses on improving activities of daily living, balance and stability, agility, aerobics and flexibility and encourages brain stimulation.
Classes adhere to the current Parkinson’s Foundation guidelines proven to delay the onset of PD symptoms and are offered in a supportive atmosphere that fosters new relationships and camaraderie that brings out the best in everyone.

ROCK STEADY BOXING classes are designed to address symptoms of Parkinson’s including balance, strength, stiffness, tremors, coordination, voice, and more through non-contact boxing, bag work, footwork drills, stretching, resistance exercises, and aerobic training. RSB classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.

SPEAKOUT! Come get a taste of the SPEAK OUT! therapy program which combines education with speech, voice, and conversation exercises. Employing the principles of motor learning with multiple repetitions and intensive home practice, this evidence-based treatment specifically addresses the motor speech deficits associated with Parkinsonism. Learn lessons to take back control of your speech, turning it into an intentional act with the ultimate goal of gaining and retaining your speech and swallowing for a lifetime!

BRAINFIT This class is designed to challenge your ability to think and move at the same time.  Research shows PwP have difficulty with fluid movement when they are distracted, leading to slow movement and falls.  In this class, we will focus on challenging specific areas of cognition while exercising our body to improve balance and the ability to dual task all while getting a great whole body workout in.  This will be a fun, lighthearted class and leave you with a better understanding of the role cognition plays in movement.

HANDS ON HELPFUL CAREGIVING Gather with other caregivers so we can focus in on your needs and discuss how to help the one you are caring for help themselves. Hear examples, problem solve, and learn how small adjustments in the environment, slightly altering ones positioning, and using simple helpful tools can greatly increase safety and independence.  Take the time to learn how to focus on yourself so you can better care for them.
