This is another episode in the Bridging Mental Health and Parkinson’s Care – A Webinar Series for Mental Health Practitioners. This episode, Mental Health & PD, will cover practical guidance for addressing depression, anxiety, and apathy in people with PD, including a clinical approach to treatment and best practices for therapy interventions. Target Audience

This activity is intended for social workers and psychologists engaged in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the clinical features of depression, anxiety, and apathy in individuals with PD, including differential presentation, symptom overlap, and diagnostic considerations
  • Explain a structured clinical approach to the assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, and apathy in PD, including indications for psychotherapy, pharmacologic referral, and interdisciplinary care
  • Apply knowledge of evidence-based and Parkinson’s-informed psychotherapy interventions for addressing depression, anxiety, and apathy, with adaptations for motor, cognitive, and neuropsychiatric symptoms
  • Identify practical strategies to promote treatment engagement, motivation, and adherence among individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners, while addressing psychosocial and care partner-related factors
