APDA Illinois Parkinson’s Education Program

Small Steps, Big Changes: Neurology, Freezing of Gait & Daily Movement

  • Where: Movement Revolution of Deerfield located at:

  • Date/Time: Saturday, March 14th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Learn how Parkinson’s disease affects the brain and contributes to freezing of gait, and why exercise is essential for improving movement. Discover which types of exercise are most beneficial for the Parkinson’s brain, and practice simple, evidence-based movements you can safely use at home to improve walking and reduce freezing episodes.


Parkinson’s Roadmap for Education and Support Services

PRESS is a free eight-week virtual education program and support program for those diagnosed with PD in the last five years and their care partners. PD-focused session topics include:

  • Building Your Healthcare Team
  • What’s Next After Diagnosis
  • Medication Management
  • Importance of Exercise
  • Dealing with Physical Symptoms
  • Impact on Daily Coping and Relationships
  • Tips for Daily Living
  • Caring for Others, Caring for Yourself

Connecting Through Art

  • Where: Home Watch Caregivers of Northshore
    • 900 Skokie Blvd #126, Northbrook, IL 60062
  • Date/Time: Thursday, April 30th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Connecting Through Art is a creative arts program for people with Parkinson’s disease that encourages self-expression, connection, and creativity through drawing and painting. Led by art therapist Emily Wells of Here & Now Mental Wellness, participants will be guided through a virtual painting activity and have the opportunity to share reflections with others. The program is free to attend, with donations appreciated to support our mission.

Join APDA for an education program with Dr. Jennifer Stelter, Psy.D., Clinical Psychologist. This session explores how holistic approaches can support people living with Parkinson’s disease by addressing the connection between mind, mood, stress, and symptoms.
