This is another episode in the Bridging Mental Health and Parkinson’s Care – A Webinar Series for Mental Health Practitioners. This episode, Supporting Family Caregivers, will explore the psychological toll of caregiving, strategies to build caregiver resilience and well-being, and effective caregiver support systems and referral pathways. APDA is pleased to partner with the Post Graduate Institute for Medicine to provide one CE credit for psychologists and social workers. Target Audience
This activity is intended for social workers and psychologists engaged in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease.
Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Identify key psychological, emotional, and behavioral stressors associated with caregiving that place family caregivers at risk for distress, burnout, and compromised mental health
- Describe the effects of chronic caregiver stress on psychological functioning, interpersonal relationships, and care outcomes
- Apply evidence-based interventions and resilience-building strategies to support caregiver well-being within clinical, community, or integrated care settings
- Assess caregiver needs and levels of distress using appropriate psychosocial screening methods to guide clinical decision-making and treatment planning.
- Integrate caregiver support systems and referral pathways, including interdisciplinary and community resources, to enhance continuity of care and caregiver outcomes
- Implement strategies to foster social connection and peer support among caregivers, including practical approaches such as online support groups, community programs, or caregiver networks
- Identify early signs of caregiver social withdrawal and intervene proactively to prevent isolation and promote ongoing engagement
