About Course

This online training course is tailored for fitness, health, and wellness professionals so they may safely and effectively work with people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in ways that will support treatment of their symptoms and improve their quality of life. The course gives an overview of PD, including its symptoms and explains the important ways in which exercise can improve those symptoms. It gives practical examples of how fitness classes can be conducted to support people with PD throughout the continuum of their disease. This course is approximately 1.5 hours in duration. All of those who complete the training course will receive a certificate of completion. This course is brought to you by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA). Course Objectives

This course will provide you with the information needed to understand Parkinson’s and the ways in which exercise improves PD symptoms. With this knowledge, you will be able to:

1. Describe common Parkinson’s disease symptoms
2. Explain the benefits of exercise for people with PD
3. Implement effective exercise programs for individuals with PD
4. Employ strategies to promote safety during individual and group exercise programs

Course Content

Welcome
There are two sections of this course. In the first section, titled Parkinson's Disease Overview, we will address the basics of Parkinson’s disease (PD), including motor symptoms, non-motor symptoms, and treatments for PD. The second section, Exercise and Fitness for PD, will examine the different means of exercise and fitness for PD.

Section 1 – Parkinson’s Disease Overview
This section will provide an overview of Parkinson's disease (PD) including motor symptoms, non-motor symptoms, and treatments for PD.

Session 2 – Exercise and Fitness for Parkinson’s Disease
This section will cover the different means of exercise and fitness for Parkinson’s disease.

This section includes the Post-Test and Post-Learning Assessment/Course Evaluation, which are the final steps to complete before receiving your Course Certificate. Please do not submit your Course Evaluation until you've completed the entire course and passed the Final Test.
