This is the first program in the Bridging Mental Health and Parkinson’s Care – A Webinar Series for Mental Health Practitioners. This episode, Understanding PD: A Foundation for Mental Health Practitioners, will provide a comprehensive introduction to PD and cover symptoms, disease progression, psychosocial impacts, and the complex relationship between PD and mental health. APDA is pleased to partner with the Post Graduate Institute for Medicine to provide one CE credit for psychologists and social workers. Target Audience

This activity is intended for social workers and psychologists engaged in the care of patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Discuss the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease to improve biopsychosocial assessment and clinical formulation
  • Identify common motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and their impact on daily functioning and mental health
  • Recognize the psychosocial challenges experienced by individuals and families following a PD diagnosis
  • Enhance the ability to distinguish PD-related emotional or behavioral changes from other mental health concerns to guide appropriate support and referrals
