American Parkinson Disease Association official charity of Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon 2015

The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon named the American Parkinson Disease Association as the official charity of all walking divisions in 2015. The 38th annual event took place May 16 and 17, offering a walking division for the full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K.

“APDA has made a tremendous difference in many lives through its outreach and research,” said Jack Staph, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon executive director. “My father had Parkinson’s disease, and I have a close friend who is living with the disease as well. I’ve seen its effects first-hand, and I’m proud that we can bring APDA to Cleveland to help raise money to benefit others dealing with Parkinson’s disease.”

The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon brings more than 20,000 participants to Cleveland during race weekend in May for all of its events, as well as numerous family members, friends and spectators. Typically, around 1,000 of those participants enter one of the four walking events.

“We are excited to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease through this event in Cleveland with such a long standing reputation,” said Leslie A. Chambers, APDA’s President and CEO. “We’ve been involved with other fundraising efforts of this magnitude and understand the value a well known and highly respected event, such as the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon, can bring to our cause. Raising awareness through education is one of our main priorities, and we’ll be able to reach tens of thousands of people through the exposure this partnership will provide.”
